Fun Poems by Trevor and Jeff Green

My son and I played a game tonight alternating verses while creating silly poems. Here are a few:

A clam I am
My name is Sam
I am not a ham
I eat gallons of spam
With strawberry jam
The cannon goes bam
I kiss a lamb
Beavers live in a dam
And say “Thank you, Ma’am”
To their friend Pam
Who tried to cram
But yelled "Shazam
I am in Viet Nam".

I am a dog
That eats like a hog
Until I swallowed a frog
Still on a log
While typing my blog
Before my jog
During the fog
And fell into the bog
While drinking eggnog
Thinking about smog
Caused by my cog
With a bad clog

Shalom

Shalom.
Thank you for opening doors
Into a soul not known.
Shalom.
Thank you for shining bright
A light of understanding.
Shalom.
Thank you for showing true
While in immense pain.
Shalom.
Thank you for bringing night
To my longing view.
Shalom.

Guiding Light

Life is strange

Walking the way
How clear things seemed
How pure the thoughts
How sweet the path.

Following the light
My heart was true
My soul filled through
My eyes saw clearly.

What happened?
To change the view
To lose the way
To burn and crash.

A false star.

Idle Thoughts

Watching.
Waiting.
What for?
The sun isn't brighter
Nor the midnight darker.
Patience.
Praying.
What for?
The grass isn't greener
Nor the sky bluer.
Wasted energy.
Wasted time.
Why?
It's easier
to wish
and watch
and want
and waste
than
to create.

Pressing On

Time.
Precious.
Fast. Furious.
Blurring.
Once slow
and
patient.
Now
roaring,
bucking
without
a
care.
Just
pressing
on.
No
reflection.
Just
pressing
on.

Labor of Love

Garden.
Sweat. Pulling weeds.
Laboring to give the love it needs.
Planting miniscule seeds.
Barren.
So slow. Nothing to show.
But in the end the plants do grow.
Blooms. Satisfying joy flows.

Lost Compass

The stars shine bright
Night after night.
Whether I want them to
Or not.
I rarely notice
the twinkling light.
Or look up to see
If they are still ablaze.
I am too busy.
Ready to sleep
Or walk
Or work
Or eat
But they burn on.
The more distractions
That are around.
The harder it is to see
The wonder
And beauty
And power
Of the burning
Stars.

Awakening

Dreams crushed,
broken and chewed.
The Siren's call
false and cruel.
Holding out hope
falsely seen.
A fool keeps
longing deep.
Never to know
joy again.

Changing Winds (Haiku)

The wind blows freely
Taking a leaf where it wants
For better or worse.

Simple Pleasures

Simple pleasures
are
golden moments
enjoyed
but
not realized.
So easily
completed
that
the effort
is
not noticed
but
the joy
is
unmistakeable.

Fallen

Once enjoyed
Now estranged

Creation
Happiness
Love
Respect

Once filled
Now empty

North Star

Did it rain?
And make you sleep.
Did it thunder?
And soothe your soul.

Did you dream?
And understand deep.
Did you awake?
Refreshed and whole.

Goodbye (read at Mom's Funeral)

Goodbye.
Goodbye Mama.
You gave me life.
You fed my hunger.
You helped me grow.

Goodbye.
Goodbye Mama.
My teacher.
My supporter.
My mentor.

Goodbye.
Goodbye Mama.
You gave me strength.
You showed me how.
You encouraged and loved me.

Goodbye.
Goodbye Mama.
My friend.
My protector.
My comfort.

Goodbye Mama.
I will miss you so.

Gentle Breeze

Still night.
Stifling air.
Void.
Gentle breeze.
Caressing fan.
Aaaaggghhh.

Storm

Rain falls upon my brow
Thunder booming this night.
Water dripping downward
As if in hurried flight.

Dusk

Golden light
fills the air.
Almost night
no despair.
Sublime sight
Nature's fire.

Desert

Serene.
Barren land.
Routine.
Sensous sand.

Man

Towers of learning.
Teacher of man.
Souls yearning.
Higher plan.

Dreamland

Longing.
Missing.
Wishing.
Foolish
But
Aching.
Dreaming.
Only
A
Dream.

Visual Haiku

Vivid colors dance
Over gessoed acrylic
Merging dreams with paint.
